Valentine’s day is almost here! Over here in our studio we both like to celebrate this holiday. Each in our own way but we both enjoy it!!
Dari and her hubby love to go out to eat somewhere special but not on the main day so it won’t be crowded and overpriced. At our house, we celebrate it more with the kids. My husband and I used to celebrate it by ourselves but that hasn’t been the case for a while, we are happy by giving each other a card or special gift.
For me, it’s a great time to be creative and have fun with art and crafts. I always look into making different kinds of valentines for the kids’ friends at school.
I love what we did this year! We created these treat bags by painting Muslin bags. While we were making them I realized how much I enjoy the creative process and how much I enjoy painting. Also, “creating” with the kids is so rewarding, you end up learning each and every time. Many times I have this “perfect” idea in my head of how the final product is going to look and then they come up with new ideas and their passion on their creations is so real that it just makes great art.
When my daughter Maya was painting her bags she imagined characters and started mixing colors to create new ones, she said: “Mami, I made orange, I know we have it in that bottle but I made mine better.” How nice is that? And my son Adrian combined many of the stencils we were using in new ways I would never have thought of. I just didn’t want to stop creating! When we finished all the bags I kept painting on scraps of cardboard, once you start creating and you get in the mood, it’s hard to stop!
How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Do you favor more traditional ways to celebrate or do you have a fun and creative alternative? We’d love to hear your stories, just leave us a note in the comments below!
